ARTIST STATEMENT

I like to create brightly colored whimsical southwestern scenes. Imaginative tortugas appear in my art as well because of a recent close encounter with sea turtles while snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands. A favorite quote by Albert Einstein, "imagination is more important than knowledge," continues to inspire my work. I like to bring joy to viewers by developing interesting, unusual juxtapositions. Painting nourishes my creative spirit. I would feel lost without it.

Prints and cards are available for sale as well as originals. Please feel free to contact me for further information.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Art has fascinated me ever since I was a young child. The highlight of the week in elementary school was when we listened to "Let's Draw" on the radio. If any student misbehaved we were all punished. We would not be allowed to listen to "Let’s Draw." I was always crushed. It was my favorite "class." I wanted to take art courses in junior high and high school; my parents insisted I take college prep courses like typing.

As a young adult in Wisconsin I painted to alleviate emotional pain. When I moved to New Mexico in 2003, painting became a joyous process. I own almost an acre of land in southwestern New Mexico. I have a fabulous view of the mountains. I have developed two bird sanctuaries which attract an abundance of wildlife. Quail, coyotes, javelinas, cottontail and jack rabbits, roadrunners, hawks, hummingbirds, ravens, doves, great horned owls, finches and many other feathered friends appear in my intuitive whimsical art. "Crooked Ear," a bunny with a bent over ear has become a daily visitor. He is like a family pet.

I taught for twenty-three years; four at the elementary level and nineteen at the college level, receiving a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985. My favorite courses to teach were human development and psychology related.
